Will I see any benefit using a MIMO router like the Linksys WRT100 on my 1330 with the Dell 1490 card?

I am looking for faster throughput and extended range. Right now I have a WRT54G and the throughput is pretty low. I can get 2 MB in the same room as the router and 1.25 MB sitting 20 feet away from it.

Connected directly to the router I am 10 MB.

No. You need MIMO support on both ends of the network system. If your network rates are that low you need to get a better router or an Intel WiFi card. That bandwidth at that distance is inexcusable unless you are using 802.11b.

    Thanks Greg,

Yeah, I thought as much. Those rates are with .G and the router set to .G only, no mixed mode.

Does the Intel card support MIMO? The Intel card has been on my radar since I got the 1330 last month. Perhaps I should just pop the $50, do the Intel card and have N support if the need ever arises.

We are talking about the Intel 4965 as a replacement, right? Does the 1330 antenna support the MIMO in the 4965?

The specs on the card indicate the card supports MIMO but does the antenna in the 1330 support it?

Vista Home Premium with SP1, just as a data point.

802.11n spec includes MIMO. And yes the 4965 card supports MIMO and their are multiple antennas in the M1330. What I'm not sure of is if MIMO is supported w/ b/g wireless on the 4965. If your going to get a new router for MIMO and the 4965 card, you might as well get a draft-N router.

Speaking of antennas in the 1330...I noticed only 2 antenna are plugged into my 4965 wifi card. There are 2 or 3 spare antennas in the adjacent slot (for cellular wireless broadband option I'm assuming). Has anyone tried plugging these into the 3rd antenna connector on the 4965? I tried pulling one over, but it didn't seem to reach and I didn't want to pull it any harder. I'll probably leave well enough alone since I don't really have bandwidth or distance problems, but my D-Link 655 router has 3 antennas and having 3 antennas in my 1330 to match may help out a bit.

Let me clarify what I am doing on the network. I am copying a 1 GB vob file from a hardwired desktop on the network to the wire 1330. If I hardwire the 1330 to the router and copy the same file from the DT to the LT it runs at 10 MB. Both machines are Vista.

Well, I picked up a Belkin N router tonight to test a theory.

With it all configured and running G only I get the same crappy throughput.

Anyone with any idea on where to start to identify the cause of the low throughput?
