What purpose is the MSata drive intended to serve? Can it be configured to augment the available amount of system RAM? My laptop is a 7720, with 8 gigs of RAM and a 240GB SSD. I was thinking of adding an MSata to it, but was not sure if there would be any real performance benefit, or otherwise, in doing so. Suggestions anyone?

If you already have an ssd you are right, there wont be any improvement in performance. But using the msata card as your os drive will then allow you to install 2x 1T hard drives in the laptop and have a very fast system and large media storage possibilities.

The best way to improve performance would to install 16gb of ram, but that would only be helpful for video or photo editing tasks.

Thanks for the reply. I couldn't find anything specific in my research to my situation. I already have a 1T drive in the other bay, it was the original boot drive that came in the laptop. When I decided to blow Windows 8 away, I figured that would be a good time to install the SSD, and fresh installed W7 ultimate to it. I will save my money and buy some more then.

    Thanks ceew!

    Hi bluequick,

The mSATA drive is used with the 1TD hard drive to improve the system performance, by storing the frequently used data and hibernation file on the mSATA drive using Intel Rapid Storage Technology. The mSATA drive is 50% faster than the hard drive and this technology is implemented to provide faster performance at affordable prices.
