Since Dell cant seem to keep up with the demand for their M1330, instead of increasing the supply, they went ahead and raised the price, before from 1299 now from 1499, of the system in order to down the demand. Very nice Dell.

Well I guess they realized they won't be able to keep up the production to satisfy the demand so they wanna just up the specs a little and give a boost to the price to make more overall profit.

Well, the thing is, it's not so much just Dell that can't keep up with demand and increase production, but also their parts suppliers. Several other tech and financial web sites have commented on the industry-wide shortage of parts, and the effect it would have on prices. That's why I always thought it was funny when people on Dell's blog complained about the "depreciation" of their systems due to the huge back-logs. Their systems have, in fact, been APPRECIATING :)

I'm certain if Dell could ship more, they would. But since they can't, they may as well fatten up their margins. It's sad to see.

Same System I built July 27th, and got for 2000 bucks after tax, now goes for 2,297.95 + Tax and that doesn't include the T7300 cause its not available anymore. So they've definately been increasing the prices.

Also that doesn't include the intel 4965 network card now, the best option is the Dell 1500 N card.

Sad for us ;) But from a business stand-point, the old law of supply-and-demand has to kick in. Dell would be morons to keep prices artificially low when people are still willing to pay the higher prices. I'll say this, though: at the prices Dell is charging for the 1330, the quality should be flawless; and as posters in this forum have made clear, that's not always the case. People are paying high prices for the PERCEIVED quality and XPS experience...Dell needs to deliver.

You know some people say prices have increased on same spec systems. Well on Dell.com it actually depends what option you click, like when you buy the Vostro you get 4 options with 4 different specs setups. If you select the wrong option out of the 4 setups you can end up paying much more than if you had selected another one. Example:

Right now if you go to the Vostro 1500 page you get 4 options: 549$, 649$, 749$ and 899$. They all have variations in specs.

So if I select the 549$ and spec it out to 2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo, 160 GB HDD, 1GB of RAM, 8600M GT and a 8X CD/DVD Burner it will come out to 1,153$

If now I go back to the 4 option page and select the 649$ setup and spec it out to the same specs above it comes out to 944$ for EXACTLY the same specs!! That's 200$ less!!

So Howardpm are you sure you clicked the same option when you went back and checked for price increase? On the Dell site it's very easy to blow out cash this way. I don't know if it's because the site is badly coded or it's purposely done by Dell. Either way, unless you bought your computer on a promotion or with a coupon, I doubt it'll be more expensive the next time around.

Dell charges a lot for RAM, so rather than pay $150 to upgrade to 2 GB, I left it at 1 GB and bought 4 GB of Crucial for a little more than Dell wanted for 2 GB. And I have the original Dell chips as backups in the unlikely event of needing to RMA the Crucials to get a new one under their lifetime warranty.

So, if they start the system at $1500 but "include" 2 GB, there you go - that's only a $50 difference from before.

Re: different configs - that applies to "regular" Vostro and Inspiron models which do have various promos - most Dell promos do not apply to XPS systems, however, and I have never seen a "Smart Value" on an XPS, so, other than an EPP or some other segment discount, you're pretty much starting from the same price AFAIK. The difference is only how much they've pre-selected for you, but the discount (or lack thereof) is the same.
