I ordered a studio 17 on 14th september, and were given a estimated delivery date of 29th september.

Today they have changed that to the 5th november!

They cant seriously expect me to wait nearly 2 months since i ordered for delivery of my laptop?

What do you think my course of action should be?

    Anyone else experiencing this?

    Cheers.

Geez that is a huge delay! Suppose it depends ifyou want a studio that much. I'd say it's worth waiting for and not cancelling the order, but do ring up and just ask why has it been delayed etc etc, Say you are highly inconvenienced by not having the laptop and that it will interfere with either your studies or work etc and that you want some sort of compensation. It's totally up to you if you want to do this though.

If you don't ask you don't get though!

I'd cancel it and try to find something that was previously ordered new from the outlet store. Way better prices and quicker delivery, can't beat that.

If he's from the UK like me though then the Dell Outlet isn't always that cheap tbh. In some cases i've seen configurations of XPS's that came out costing the same or more as getting it new.

There is places on ebay where you can get a Dell Studio 'They have them in stock' and still have a normal warranty etc. They are brand new not used. This is what I did. I also got a free 2yr onsite warranty which might come in handy.

I hope it means that the Montevina refresh for Studio laptops is about to be announced. I've been postponing purchase of new laptop for a while now...

Ordered my Studio 17 on September 9th with a delivery date of the 25th. It was shipped out on time and I should be picking it up in the next day or two. I live overseas so the delivery date is out of Dells hands once they ship it. So everything was on time for me. I also ordered the tangerine orange lid so maybe that is why there was no problems with the order.

I would take it with a grain of salt; Dell usually overestimates their delivery times. Mine arrived 2 weeks ahead of schedule.

It all depends on what is happening in the production process/build of your order...If there is a shortage of parts, under-estimated dates....

Feel lucky that yours wasnt in the middle of a build, and a part became on *back order* ~ and your order didn't get cancelled, *refreshed* and had to start all over :(

And, yes Dell always over-projects the ESD, sometimes it works to your advantage and you get it earlier..and sometimes things happen and its unfortunate..

I hope your order does not take that long....

    Cin ;) :)

I've been thinking the XPS models would get the Montevina/Centrino2 updates first, but the Outlet was FLOODED with Inspiron 1525 and Studio 15 units in the last week or so. There were over 900 "Previously Ordered New" Studio 15's and around 1400 "Previously Ordered New" Inspiron 1525's. There are usually a few dozen or maybe up to one hundred of these normally, so it's obvious they're pushing existing inventory via the Dell Outlet.

Dell is the only major notebook manufacturer left who doesn't have any Montevina-based consumer models yet! HP has had them for several months, Toshiba has offered several 'Centrino2' configuration for a while now, ASUS and Lenovo have updated their lineups. Dell is the odd man out, so they'll be rolling out the updated models any day now!

It now makes perfect sense that the Studio models could be the first to get the updated hardware. As the multimedia/entertainment-oriented systems, they're the head-to-head competitor for the new HP Pavilions. I just hope that Dell doesn't try to "out-bling" HP when they update the internal bits! I sent back my new HP dv7t last week after using it for five days- I hated it! I'm much happier with my Studio 15 from the Dell Outlet and saved over $400 to boot! I'll take function over form anyday. :D

what was your build? were there parts they warned may delay your build?

i ordered my 17'' on Sept 5th, and it was ESD for Sept 22nd. I actually got it on Sept 18th.
