Hi guys. Well, I was wondering if any of you knows what the maximum CPU speed is for a vostro 1700. At the moment I've got a T7500 2.2GHz CPU and I was thinking of upgrading. The specs page on Dell shows the T7700 as the max supported CPU. However, these days a Vostro 1700 can be configured with a T9500!!! Has the motherboard been changed for these new vostro 1700? Could I possible try to use a T9500 on my Vostro? Any help is much appreciated!

    Cheerio :)

It should be able to handle it, but why? you are not going to see a huge difference in performance, you may get a few minutes of battery life, but to me its not worth it

Well, they use the same sockets, and the Santa Rosa platform supports Penryn processors, so I would guess "yes".

I agree. Linuxman2k3, I think you are setting yourself up to be disappointed. Still, if you have the money to burn, go ahead!

You might be right guys, I dont think it will make a huge difference. I'd better upgrade to 4GB RAM for £40 and install Vista Business 64bit :p
    Cheers guys

now i can understand if you had a T5450(1.6Ghz) and wanted to upgrade to the T9500 then there would be a significant difference

The T9500 is a pointless CPU anyway... the T9300 is just ideal! :) But as everyone else said, considering what you already have, just stick with it! :D

Not installed on my laptop. I use my laptop for FEM, DSP and PCB design (all apps are winbugs-based). I'll give Linux 64bit a try soon, very soon ;)
