Hi - just wondering if someone can help me - I have set up a Dell laptop system/components on line, which I am presently deciding whether or not to proceed to purchase. Another item I want to obtain is VideoXpress, for converting old VHS tapes to DVD. The VideoXpress site notes that one of the system requirements is "graphic card set to 1024 x 768". In my Dell system there is a video card (I assume the word "video" is interchangeable with "graphic"?) of "256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650". My question is then, can that video card be set to 1024 x 768, and if so is it easy to do?
Thanks - all the best - Peter Sansom, Melbourne, Australia

The Radeon HD 3650 (graphics/video card) should be more than the minimum requirements of the software. To set/change the resolution:
    1. right click on your desktop
    2. go down to personalize (if using Vista) or properties (if using XP)
    3. go to display settings (if using Vista) or settings tab (if using XP)
    4. move the slider to the desired resolution setting
    5. click "okay"

1024x768 (XGA) is an old resolution format. Most computers on the market today support a resolution higher than it and are widescreen (WXGA 1280x800.) I believe the standard screen on the Studio 17 is (WXGA+ 1440x900.) The higher resolutions are backwards compatible with the lower resolutions (e.g. 1440x900 allows you to display 1024x768 material) but materials and stuff would be blurry and distorted.

I'm not really good at explaining this stuff so if I lost you, I'm really sorry.

Hi - thanks very much for the explanation, I appreciate it. The article was quite useful as well. On what you have said, I may need to look for a different option for the VHS to DVD procedure and so avoid that screen distortion....
