From what I have read here, it seems that the McAfee installed software takes up the most space (slows it down the most) on the new systems. Can I delete it (and its related programs) only? If so, will this mean I will also have to worry about re-installing the OS? I am studying the "stickie" regarding deleting programs, but all is not clear to me.

I'm a newbie, so please be gentle!

    Thanks!

Yes, it can be deleted by using the Add/Remove programs function of Windows. You won't have to perform any Windows reinstall.

Add/Remove is found under the 'Start' Menu; Settings; Control Panel

Now that said.... You DO plan on having some kind of AV software???!!!!???? I can see you nodding your head in the affirmative!!!!

Yes you can uninstall it as well as other programs that you feel like you would never use. No, you wouldn't have to worry about reformatting your OS as long as no problems are caused. The only reason you might have to reformat later on down the road is if a problem with XP occurred.

Is there any part of the sticky that I can help clear up any questiosn?

MarkMcK - yes, I'm nodding. I've heard of (I think): AVG, PC Cillin, Haut***. Is there one/some you would recommend.

SouthernGirl - once my system arrives, you'll be one of the first people I'll contact if something doesn't seem right!

    Thank you, both!

    MaBee,

You've already mentioned AVG, but I'll add AntiVir and Avast

I can't personally recommend these but they seem fairly popular.
