Is it possible to get the Media buttons on the Inspiron 1520 to function with the lid shut?

I plug my notebook into my hifi at home to play music & it seems a bit silly having the screen running when its not needed.

I use Itunes but will change to something else if it means i can used the buttons with the top down.

    thanks

Is it going onto standby when you close the lid? You can go to Power Options through the battery icon on the taskbar, go to the power plan you use, advanced settings and change the close lid setting to "do nothing".

Will that not mean that the screen will still be running when the lid is closed?

I'm sure i read that it was possible to play music straight off the hard drive without booting windows...true?

I'll go give your suggestion a go in the meantime.

So your saying your Media Buttons don't work with iTunes?

Does your computer go into sleep mode when you close the lid?

I've used my media buttons before while my lid was closed. You should be able to too unless your computer is sleeping when you close the lid. In that case, you shouldn't get any sound at all.

Whenever you close the lid, in almost all, if not all laptops, the screen will stop outputting anything.

it was sleeping/hibernating (whatever the difference is) but i have now changed it to "do nothing" which has done the trick & closes the screen down. thanks for the info.

    EDIT:

Whilst in use, the buttons only seem to work with itunes when Itunes is the top window..is it possible to use the buttons with itunes when i have a few other windows open on top of it? thanks

Not sure about that problem... but I don't think that occurs with WMP. Perhaps try that?
