I know it can play MP3s off the HDD and DVDs that are in the drive, but what about DivX/XviD, H.264, WMV-HD, and other formats? What about playing DVDs that are ripped to the HDD? I couldn't find specifics on Dell.com.

WMV-HD might be a possible, but I doubt it wrt Divx and H.264

wrt ripped DVDs on the hard drive... I think that should be possible, just need to 'navigate' to the location. Question would be whether WMP or PowerDVD will do anything with them....???? I guess if the codec is not an issue, then suppose it should...

I know for a fact that if you have the software capable to play DVDs on your PC, just about any DVD frontend (WMP, PowerDVD, Intervideo, etc) will play DVDs off the hard drive in either TS, ISO, or IFO format. I have a pretty massive collection of movies on my hard drive - some are full copies, some I have converted to XviD to save space.

The question comes down to whether MediaDirect is able to play these formats without the OS running...
