Hi,
I have currently tested windows vista with all the drivers installed also with MD2, but looks like MD2 is not compatible, the button does not work while in vista or on off-state. So I bought MD3 and I am just wondering if I install MD3from scratch will it work with Vista, I know that the new MD3 changes the MediaDirect button to its own application MediaDirect express instead of Media Center, so will the same thing happen in vista? thanx

In short, no.
If you go to install MD3 from Within Vista, it wil tell you it can't install. You have to Install MD3 from within XP and then put Vista over that partition. At least that's what I had to do. -
did it work with u? when u press the MediaDirect button which application launches? media center or media direct? thanx
-
Well, neither from within Vista. I am running Vista Business.
-
ive got md3 working properly, i booted from the md3 dvd and let it partition the drives, i then installed vista and then installed mediadirect 3 in windows. then i rebooted and it works fine from both buttons.

Once Vista is installed go straight to "Control Panel" and open "User Accounts and Family Safety" then into "User Accounts" and TURN OFF "User Access Control" from here and reboot when asked.
Once rebooted put the MD3 DVD in the drive and CANCEL the automatic install (Press ESC to cancel)
Explore the DVD and go into the folder called "DELLKIT" and right click on the file called "DELLKIT.EXE" and select "Run As Administrator". This will then bring up the same install screen for MD3 and hit Enter. This should now let you install MD3 into Vista with no problems and now REMOVE THE DVD from the system.
Shutdown the system.
Press the MD button on your system and it should boot Dell MediaDirect and runs its "First Time Setup" screen.
Reboot again and then load Vista and lauch MediaDirect for Windows and goto the "Settings" option to
configure the folders you want to use for Music, Video etc...
This should get it sorted for you.

Hi,
I've been following a few of these threads and this one seems the best for my query.
I have vista business and media direct 3 pre-installed on my newly purchased Inspiron (see below). I have tried to put the divx codecs onto MD3 (by reinstalling it and doing the taskmgr trick) but it doesn't work. When I press Ctrl+Alt+Del the taskmgr doesn't appear in MD3 from a cold boot.
I am wondering if taskmgr is different in vista or I'm doing something else wrong?
Any pointers would be great...
Thanks -
make sure u put it in the WINDOWS/system32 folder
-
Yes, it will work with Vista.. I am using it with Vista - Do u need download instructions and Install instructions?

This thread is almost a month old...I hope someone can help me.
So I'm supposed to receive my new e1705 in three weeks. It will have Windows Vista Home Premium, and MediaDirect 3.0 will be preinstalled most likely. So after a clean reinstall of Vista (starting over without the junk software), will doughy's instructions work in reenabling MediaDirect 3.0? Also, how should I partition the drive or does the MediaDirect DVD create the partitions automatically? -
I purchased Vista Ultimate retail. Called up XPS Support @ Dell and explained I had purchased a new HD and was in need of the MD3 DVD. Tech was totally cool and sent it out overnight. Steps to install were:
1. Boot using MD3 DVD
1a. Create MD3 partition via MD3 boot screen and it also allocated all remaining space for the OS partition.
2. Rebooted and installed Vista
3. After Vista was installed, inserted MD3 DVD as instructed in step 1a and MD3 DVD finished setup of MD. Reboot.
All works as it should
Hope this helps. -
Wow, that was a quick reply. Thanks. Now I can't wait to get my hands on my new notebook.

Oh, 1 more thing I noticed...
In XP MCE, pushing the Media button within the OS results in Media Center launching. Under Vista, the button launches MD3. Looking at Quickset utility settings (using ver. 7.2.1.3 - vista version), the option to assign the hotkey to a app is not present for the Media button. Then again, this is the quickset that popped up under vista drivers for my M1710 on dell's support site. Perhaps in Dell's next update...
Oh well. -
Ugh. So I thought I'd try to save some trouble and call Tech Support for the MediaDirect Reinstallation DVD early...
Except no one over at Dell has any idea what it does, what it is, etc. So I e-mailed Customer Service twice, and they only told me to call Sales. I call Sales, and the guy can't find the MediaDirect software anywhere and insists that the software will come with my notebook (fat chance). If anyone has the part number, please help. -
When I received my 1505 in December, it did come with MD3.0 DVD and installation directions. It also came with a dell drivers DVD, Win XP DVD, and MS Works DVD.
I emailed them to request installation CD's for Roxio Creator DVD (burning software) and Cyberlink Power DVD (DVD player and decoder). I told them that I was replacing my harddrive and I had the disks in two days (eventhough they never replied directly to my email).
Since I have installed Vista, I found that I haven't needed to install Cyberlink. I think that there is a DVD decoder built into Vista. But, I did decide to install Roxio because I think that it's a decent DVD/CD burning application. Neither one of these programs are mission critical. -
As stamped on the DVD -
P/N: JW091
REV: A00
On the packing list it is listed as 'KIT;SW;MDRT;3;VSTA;SVC;DVD'
Hope this helps... -
I get a cannot find NTLDR. I followed the instructions verbatim.
