I can't get Media Direct 3 to even install with Vista. I try to boot up using the Media Direct CD and it won't even load it.

What do you mean after formatting with Md3? I can't even get the disc to load.

when you bootm the notebook and see the bios screen hit f12 choose boot device cd rom boot off of the media direct cd choose option 1 format whole drive it will create 3 partitions then install xp on the largest partition after install of xp then run media direct 3
CAUTION back up all important data first or it will be lost
after you get xp loaded with all drivers and media direct you can upgrade to vista and media direct will work
    hope this helps

I guess I am having similar issues. I just installed Vista Ultimate over the weekend and I was not able to take the upgrade path from XP Media Center Edition 2005 so I had to do a clean install. When i went through setting up the partitions I left the Media Direct Partition and it is still accessible if the machine is turned off I just cannot access it through vista. Can I just install the windows portion of media direct? Also can anyone tell me what Media Experience is, Dell had sent me those disks as well. Also I can't seem to load any dell utilities in Vista and having issues do installs on some other apps.

I have installed Vista Ultimate using the ISO I got through MSDN. I was only able to do a full clean install of vista no upgrade possible. When I redid the partitions I left the Media Direct partition and it still functions, I am just missing the windows software piece does anyone know if I reinstall through windows will it work or do I have to undo everything or will dell even know?

I just installed media direct from the media direct dvd ("for reinstalling dell mediadirect3" disk). just browse to windowsmd3 folder and start with setup.exe. it will install fine and work.

unfortunately for me my md3 boot partition is not working. apparently it only works when upgrading from xp (after wiping, repartitioning with md3 disk above and installation of xp and then upgrade with vista). hope there will be an easier solution soon.

I’m sure DELL will put out a MD repair tool for Vista when they start shipping Vista preinstalled notebooks.
