There are a few threads in the forums on this subject already, saying you don't need to do this or that etc.and there's always more than one way to get anything done, but this worked perfect for me!

*These instructions are for MD in VISTA ONLY-If you need to re-install MD for XPee:laugh: -please see other threads.

To re-install Media Direct, set up a 3 Gb partition first, install Media Direct 3.3, re-install the o.s., then finish the media direct re-install through windows.

    So, here goes.

1)- boot from the Vista install disc-select install now, say no to entering a product key, check the box for the version you have, it will then show the partitions.
2)- Create a 3.0 Gb partition> DO NOT FORMAT IT, exit.
    3) **** Boot from Media Direct re-install disc. It will partition the HD for Media Direct (a 3Gb one from step 2, a "C" drive, and the infamous Dell "hidden" partition. ) ****, then go to a screen
where you get options on how to allocate the rest of the space.

**** NOTE: It will format the HD, not sure if it leaves intact partitions-I did it after deleting the recovery partition. Not responsible for lost partitions/data. :wideeyed:

    4) It gives 3 options-
#1 leave all unallocated space for "C"
#2 choose how much space you want to allocate to "C"
    #3-Quit
    5) Choose whatever one you prefer-and just follow the instructions on the screen.
    6) Install the o.s. to the "C" drive.
    7) Boot into Vista normally, insert the Media Direct disc to finish installing Media Direct.
    8) Install drivers and apps-BINGO-done!!! :spinny:

Exact step by step below. Theres no need to create a MD partition as MD does it automatically on its initial boot.

    Thx :notworthy:

    Got a quick question,if I may?

I have a nice link about Wireless N certs-from the Wi-Fi Alliance. I started a thread about it, but want to put the webpage in my sig. I can't figure it out, keeps tellin me that it's too many characters? Should I just add a link to my thread, to my sig?
    Any help appreciated.

:( Hy! I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 notebook and i want to install a Media direct 3 software. I was formatting the HDD with MD3 reinstall DVD, it create 2 partitions, 1- 47 MB, with EISA service ... and 2 - 2,2 GB with Media Direct. I install a OS Vista with all drivers and i try to setup media direct from his dvd. It display a error message like :"This system is not supported by this Reinstallation DVD...". I turn off UserAccountControl, i open the MD3 DVD and i run the application with Admin rights. NOTHING!! Same error!! It's drive me crazy!!! After every steps i reboot my computer, i even try to start with MEDIA DIRECT button and after display the media direct interface (like a picture) continue to boot on Vista, not on Media Direct. How can i resolve this problem? I like my Inspiron , and i appreciate Dell very much so please tell me a solution.
    Thank U very much!!
BTW - My DVD is from a uTorrent site because is not included in my notebook package. Can U tell me where i can find a original one please? How much it cost me?

You need Media Direct 3.3, not Media Direct 3.0. They are different, It could be that it is model specific, don't know where to get the cd,other than to call Dell, sorry.
