What exactly I should expect from Media Direct?
I keep pressing the Media Direct button (next to power) and nothing happened. Isnt it suppose to boot and show media direct if I press that button? One time it opened up in but then I never able to open Media Direct by pressing that button again. What do I need to do to make it this media direct button to work.
Also, I ordered my E1505 (T2300) with intel pro wireless. I should be getting Centrino Duo sticker on it, right? Instead it is only centrino (which I believe it means single core centrino) I know it's a silly thing just to argue about small sticker but sometime a little thing can make something more valuable (in resaleor show off
) So, do you think I can ask Dell to fix their mix up on the sticker thingy?
Edit: Ok here's what happened just now... It opened up for about 2-3 seconds then a small window with error (just like in windows) popped up and then it shut down

Did you reformat the laptop? If you did the partition might be messed up. Look at the forums I believe someone found how to re-install it.

No, I havent gone that far... Im simply trying to see what this notebook can do (this is my first notebook
) Once I get used to it then Im planning to reformat and reinstall the software (without the bloatware).
It encountered error 2-3 seconds after I clicked the OK screen about licensed music and files stuff.
And just now it opened up just fine. Should I be worry about the previous errors and problem opening it up?
Is there a way to use this media direct without having the lcd turned on? -
I don't think so -
If you don't want to use your LCD, after you start media direct (since you have to have the laptop open anyways to hit the button), just close the LCD. When the laptop is closed, the LCD turns off.

I too would like someone to provide a description on what to expect with MediaDirect from a power OFF state. What kind of screens/options up to the point of playing a DVD.
Nothing in great detail is needed just something close to outline how it's 'suppose to work' before someone [like me] messes with the partitions, etc
Thanks

You should get the same options whether the laptop is booted up into XP or not. It should pop up with a screen asking you to either play a DVD, or what music you would like to listen to (i'm basing this off of what other users have said).
The partition plays a large role when the laptop is turned off. It has Media Experience in that seperate partition, and is able to use that partition to play your dvd/music.
In a weird way, it is like a dual boot system. With dual boot systems, you have two operating systems located on separate partitions which allows you to use either of the systems, and this is somewhat similar to the way E1505/E1705 are set up. You have an OS partition, and a Media Experience partition. The media button is programmed to load the Media experience partition so you don't have to load XP. When XP is loaded, I'm not sure if it uses that partition or not to load Media Direct. On the old version of Media Direct we had to install it on our XP partition in order to use it.
If you delete that partition, you'll either have to repartition your HDD to make it correct, or you'll only be forced to boot into XP in order to watch movies/music.
I hope that makes some sense. -

Hi all,
am newbie in this community. Have a 3 months old e1505 inspiron. And have a question
When i launch MediaDirect, the .avi video files are not supported. It says exactly "this video format is not supported". Other common video formats are fine, e.g wmv or so.
It all plays fine when in XP Media Center.
I have been removing some programmes, so there is a chance that I messed up something. Also, I dont remember, whether it worked when receiving brand new Dell. But it must have worked I guess.
Any suggestions are most welcome.
Thanks
