After I first got my laptop several months ago, Media Direct worked fine. After not booting Media Direct since early December, I tried to boot it up yesterday to watch a DVD, and the Media Direct splash screen showed, then it loaded Windows!

After it loaded Windows, and I logged on, Media Direct opened. I thought, "What is this - some kind of joke?"

Furthermore, I was required to set it up all over again before watching the DVD.
I then thought that maybe, having deleted my old account and started a new one, Media Direct needed to be reconfigured before I could boot it.

So, after setting it up, I shut off the computer and tried to boot it. Same thing. Only this time Media Direct didn't need to be configured after Windows booted.

What in blazes is going on? I thought I was supposed to be able to boot Media Direct w/o Windows!?

And no, I haven't messed with partitions, or re-installed Media Direct. If anyone has had this problem, and preferably overcome it, please fill me in.

    Thanks...

    Subscribed.

I'm having an MD problem as well. Tried to play a movie for the first time tonight and it says, "Cannot detect a DVD device". Calling Dell on Monday unless I can figure it out or someone here has a solution.

And you can play DVDs outside of MD?

Well I've never tried booting from a shutdown, but once I tried loading mediadirect while my laptop was on hibernate and it blue screened after the splash screen T.T

Only home premium and ultimate have a dvd decoder built into them. You need one if you dont. A program like power dvd works.

I think your title should have been "Media Direct *IS* Baloney"! :)

I agree. I'm currently using the MD button in Windows to turn off my screen, and I plan to use it to boot Ubuntu. :D
