I got my new XPS1530 over a month ago, deleted my Vista partitian and reloaded XP Pro. I left the media direct partition alone.
Laptop has been running very well for me and gets about 4 hours use a day.
Today for some unknown reason I decide to push the Media Direct button. Media Direct comes up and tells me please be pateint its loading for the first time..yada..yada..
Up comes a screen that says Media Direct cant finish loading because I may have bitlocker enabled on my hard drive.....no big deal the Media Direct Seems usless to me any how.
Exit.............machine shuts down fine.
Power On.....machine comes up fine.
Shut Down...shuts down fine.
Power On.....PROBLEM...laptop tries to load Midia Direct.
Have to wait until error to EXIT to shut down.
Power On.....same issue.
I can not get laptop to boot to XP.
Tried F12...boot from Internal HDD and still goes to Media Direct.
Dell says they cant help unless I want to restore to Vista which I dont.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You have to partition your hard drive using the MediaDirect CD before installing the OS. Then you have to finish the MediaDirect install after the OS is installed. The instructions to perform this are with your MediaDirect CD.
BTW, which set of XP drivers did you use? -
I used most of the drivers from the 1330, when I had problems I searched here and found drivers that worked. The touchpad was an issue on mine.
I dont care about loading MediaDirect I will never use it and have know idea what possesed me to hit the button. I guess if it were bright RED and said do not touch I would have pressed it a month ago.
Why wont this thing boot to XP? It did it on the first restart which seems logical. -
If I can get it to reboot, Ill send you the drivers I used. ;-)

If you press the MediaDirect button without the program being completely installed and functioning, it corrupts your OS and the only way I have found to fix it is to do a reinstall. Even though I don't use MediaDirect I always install so if I push the button instead of the power button nothing catastrophic like that happens. I think there are ways to remap the button but I have not investigated that.

Im just about done with my reinstall......what a freakin nightmare.
Took your advice and completed the install on MediaDirect.
For some reason the Video driver I used last time is not working, should be ready to go by morning.
I did try booting the drive from another computer and deleting the MediaDirect partition completely....no go...I guess you only make this mistake once. -
I'm glad I could help.
