I'm considering to remove Media Direct... Can I confirm a few things? I read somewhere it is a separate partition and hidden. Also, how much space does it take up? If it is a small amount then I think I will leave it alone. Really worthless piece of bloatware.

    From this thread
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=162824
    These are the partitions:

    1. 140-150 MB Dell boot/diagnostic partition
    2. 10 GB Recovery partition (reads ad D:\)
    3. xxx GB OS partition (reads as C:\) - gets booted up by the power button.
    4. 2.5 GB Mediadirect partions - gets booted up by the mediadirect button.

OMG 2.5GB for worthless software? IT HAS TO GO.

OK will have my turn at trying to reformat this.

Is there any means to remove it without a format? Seems like a hassle... I can't even see it on the 'My Computer'.

Ok, I got a follow on question. Is there any way to map the media direct button to launch something else? Now, I don't mean another OS, but I mean like a program launcher for itunes, a fave folder or firefox?

    Thanks for any help.

Actually a format will take you no more than three minutes.
You need an administrator account, go into system manager, then partition manager in Vista. Select the 2.5 GB partition (make sure it is Media Direct's)
, right click on it and choose format.

You are romoving the Media Direct that boots up with the MD button.
The media direct in Windows is still there, in C:. To remove that, too, use the Add-Remove application facility in the control Panel.

As for remapping the button, yes it can be done.
Within windows you can use to fire up , for example, WMP or Winamp. You need a small utility to remap the button. I don't remember its name, though. It has been discussed a loto on this forum, so a search here will be helpful.
You can also use the MD button to boot a different OS if you count on having a dual boot system with Linux (Or XP, or another Vista). That's a little trickier, but you will find guides in this same forum too.
