Hi, this dell 1400 vostro just came in today and mostly everything works fine except i cannot seem to get the media direct to work. It's really frustrating me. I set up the program so that it said I'm optimized for media direct and then shut off the computer. I press the media direct button and wait for it to load to the screen where it says building media direct files. It says that it takes a long time to set up the files for the initial use but how long is it supposed to be. I'm running media direct 3.3 and the screen just sits there saying building media direct files. I waited about an hour and a half for it to load and nothing happened at all so I just shut off the computer. Is it normally supposed to take hours long or what? Please help me. This is a brand new laptop but I don't know why it's acting like this. Any help on this issue would be gladly appreciated so that I don't have to go through all the hassle with dell support line.

    Thanks

I dont understand how you say you set it up to optimize. If its a brand new system, you should have been able to work through the initial welcome setup, turn it off and then turn Media Direct on....

Conversely, you may need to do a reinstall...or consider a return if you want their original system on it.

Do a reinstall of what? Just uninstall the media direct and then reinstall it with the cd it came with again? (sorry, I'm not very good with computers) And how long should it normally take for it to set up for when you use it the very first time?

What do you mean by that? MediaDirect comes preinstalled with your system. You don’t have to install / set it up. Just have to boot it up by pressing the dedicated MD button.

Searching for media files on the hard disk takes only a couple of minutes (especially on a new PC without many if media files). Even if you have a lot of files, it definitely won’t take an hour.

Oh, I mean when the computer was still on, I clicked on Media direct program and I went through the wizard for it. Like it asked me what kind of speakers I had an everything and searched for my music files. I don't know why it still won't work when I press the button. It just stands on the screen saying it's building my media files for like an hour. Is it defective? I mean, I didn't even mess with anything when I turned it on for the first time except for go through the setup and enter my account name.

I think you need to run the Media Direct first inside Windows to set up the folders before running it directly.
