    Hi,
I just bought a Vostro1500 and have removed all partitions on my hard drive to made a clean install of WinXP.
But, accidentally I hit the MediaDirect button which turns on the laptop and still attempts to read from the MediaDirect partition.
When shutting down and turning on the laptop in a normal way, it will continue to try to find that partition. Although this partition doesn't exist anymore, it is restored as C:/, and my "former" C:WinXP partition is now seen as unpartionned space.
So far, the only solution I found was to repartition and reinstall XP (again...).
Is there a way to really get rid of MediaDirect? Or Is there a way to disable that button?
    Thanks

AFAIK there is no way to disable that button, however if you removed MD and only have XP or Vista, then both MD button and Power button should boot the primary OS.

On my i1520 (the cousin or twin of the v1500) the solution is a lot simpler than it seems...

Just press the media direct button again and it will load your OS and the power button will work as it should again... No need to reinstall your OS or anything like that ;)

I found this out when I had the same issue on my i1520 about a week ago when I got it and removed MD and etc... (as MD won't work if the HD is in ACHI mode)...

    Didn't work... :-(
My C:WinXP partition didn't exist anymore (became Unpartionned Space) and both the MediaDirect button and the power button tried to boot MediaDirect, which was then on a newly generated C: partition.
