    Hi,
I tried vista on my Inspiron 6400 and everything works perfect except the MediaDirect button(in vista).
Does anyone know how to fix it?
    Thanks!

Andy I have the same situation. When I installed Vista Ultimate RTM I removed all partitions except for the Media Direct Partition, because I thought that since it was still there it would work under Vista. But currently that is not the case. The button is useless under Vista and the last I heard from Dell was about 2 weeks ago, they said they are possibly working on a fix for it. I can still however use Media Direct whenever I click on the MD button while the computer is off.

dell said 2-2-07 in a conversation with the engineers that a patch is forthcoming soon to fix the m/d 2 and 3 problems in vista it might take a couple of weeks they say we know a fix exists because they are shipping vista with media direct now just they are holding out on the fix because it has to rewrite the mbr to work and they need to make it idiot proof.

I spent 6 hours rigging my hard drive so I could get the Media Direct button to boot XP and get Media Center up on my screen.

I was told the same info on a new fix for the bootloader. Seems that Vista writes a totally new bootloader that is not compatible with the one that runs Media Direct when the machine is off. So once done...they are supposed to post it in the similar place as the one for XP's fix is. It will appear under Vista...run the same way and it should work

BTW...I am curious...I was sent Media Direct 3 on DVD, and I am using Media Direct 2 on the machine (built 9/29). I don't have the install files for Media Direct 2, once I go to Vista. Guess I am gonna have to totally wipe the drive...install Media Direct 3, then the Diagnostics...then Vista...

the problem is the m/d 3 program does not see the partition you prepared for it so it will not install files when you try to run it in vista
if you allready have m/d 3 in xp and do an upgrade to vista theres a fifty-fifty chance m/d 3 will work
