I just reformatted my E1505 and when I went to use/boot the repair CD, no command prompt ever appeared?? I followed the same procedure 6 months ago and everything worked fine. What gives?
-
hmm that's weird. Are you using a disc that you made or the Dell disc?
-
I'm using the disc I made last night off the drivers page on the Dell site. The CD boots up but no comand prompt ever comes and then it just goes right into windows....???
-
Not sure, how would I check? Would that fix the problem??
Also, I did boot from the CD/DVD drive as per the F12 menu (with the reapir CD in the drive) but never got the comand prompt so I couldn't enter text/commands. Hmm..... -
I think there is something that you have to select. Mark has better details about the short repair than I do:

I did follow Mark's directions, but the file/driver provided on their site is 12517which may not work with his instructions??
Anyone? -
I think that method still works with the 12517 repair utility. Another option is to make a new disc and try it.
-
Did make a 2nd disc and that didn't work either. Thant why I'm SOOOOO frustrated right now, lol.
-
I'm sorry :-/ I really don't know what is going on.
When you select the cd/dvd drive in the 1 time boot menu, does it ask you to press any key? -
When I get to the first time boot menu, I use the arrow key to get down to DVD/CD and it says press enter to select your choice. After that, the drive fires up, the DVD/CD is spinning but no command prompt. You just boot in Windows, all the while the CD/DVD is just humming along. Weird...
-
OK, just took a brand new CD-R out of it's case, right into the drive and burned the utility file. When booting it up, still no command prompt!!! GEEZ....
Anyone else have this issue? -
Did you use a special software to burn the .iso file?
-
Sonic Record Now...came with the system.
-
okay that might be causing part of the problem. I don't think Sonic can burn .iso files. Sorry for this being a pain, but you need to download special burning software for .iso files. Here is more info on it:

Bingo...that was it. It's always the LITTLE things. Thanks for your help once again SG!
-
LOL, no problem. I'm just glad that it is fixed.
