I just bought a new Dell XPS M1710 laptop, and I cant get my memory card reader to work. I am trying to use my memory card from my digital camera, but it doesnt seem to detect it. I also tryed to use my chip from a cell phone, and nothing seems to be detecting. Is there any way to check it, or a setting to get it working? What do you have to do to get pictures from them, or what ever?

When it is fully inserted, it still sticks out like 1/8 of an inch or so doesnt it. It doesnt go flush with the computer right? I didnt want to push it in too far.

Hmm, it should work. Whenever i insert mine, mine card is not flush with the laptop but it is pretty close. Do you here it click? It should make a little clicking sound.

Once you insert the card, XP should recognize the new hardware and you can see your card in "My Computer". Eventhough you have the latest drivers, I would still reinstall them if it will let you. You can also go to the device manager and uninstall your Card Reader and then reboot. This will cause XP to detect the new hardware and reinstall the drivers.

I don't have an explanation for why it is not working unless there is some kind of hardware damage. It should work out of the box if you haven't changed any XP settings. Did you turn anything off in services.msc?
