Wasn't sure what forum to post this in, but I decided the Dell section would suffice. I've been reading and talking to a few people, specifically this person named Rick. I want to find out what is true, etc. Here is what he told me after I questioned just about everything he said in previous emails:

    1) Going over 1gb of Memory will cause the computer to run slower. This is the BIG question.
    2) 533 mhz memory is NOT any faster in a US 6000 as it runs at 400mhz speed. He says only overseas Dell computers have run it at 533.
    3) You need memory guaranteed to be compatible. (though I know this is pretty much BS, I've upgraded memory several times in my desktop)
    4) He also said dual channel gives you a performance boost running the two sticks together, around 30%. So you want to have matching sticks. This I can understand, though I do not know very much about dual channel.

    My current specs:
    Dell 6000
    Pentium M 760 2ghz 533fsb
    512mb 400mhz RAM (1 stick)
    60gb 7200rpm HD
    128mb ATI x300

If anybody can answer these questions, I would be greatly appreciative. I use the computer primarily right now for gaming, HL2, Far Cry, etc.

I have the same probelm. I bought 1 dim 512M memory. During these days, i need to update the memory to 1G and make the Dual Channel.

I reaaly want to know how to make the dual channel.

    Thank you.

BTW, the memory in my computer is Hypix 512M. Should I buy the same memroy?

    1. no
    2. no, if you have the 1.6 or higher processor, then your FSB is 533
    3. compatible meaning "it fits in the laptop" then yes
    4. dual channel - you need to matching sticks of memory (i.e., 2 x 256 or 2 x 512 or 2 x 1024) to get dual channel activation

Dual channel...much faster? also does 533mhz FSB speed mean that the ram is also 533mhz? i believe my 6000 is only 400mhz ddr2, but i am sure of the 533mhz front side bus.

The i6000 comes with 400MHz DDR2 RAM from the factory, but the laptop does support 533MHz RAM. I got my i6000 with 256MB from the factory. I bought two 512MB Micron 533MHz DDR2 chips, and now the laptop runs dual-channel 533MHz DDR2 memory. I really have no clue why Dell only puts in 400MHz memory from the factory, since the price difference between the two is not that much. I am assuming that it is so that it doesn't compete with the i9300 (which is way too big I think).
