This is a total newbie question!

    Trying to decide between 1.0GB, 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM Memory (1 x 1024MB) and 1.0GB, 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM Memory (2 x 512MB).

Would I be right in saying that using just the one slot is better than 2 512MB?

depends on if you plan to upgrade or not. If you want to upgrade, then it is better to get 1 stick of the same amount you want to upgrade. For example if you want to upgrade to 2gb,then you would want to buy 1 stick of 1gb now, and buy your second from newegg.com

    or

you can go with the cheapest method. Then buy your RAM elsewhere at a much lower price.

Both options are the same price so I think i'll go with the 1 slot option, give myself the option of being to upgrade down the road. That make sense?

Just wondering, is it straight forward to add RAM to a D820?

Cheers thanks. Been looking since at the D820 and was considering going with 512MB, just to cut costs a bit but they dont give me the option of 1 slot, must use the 2. Does this rule out upgrading?

No you can still upgrade. You'll just have to buy two sticks of 1gb if you want to upgrade to 2gb. You can also get 1 stick of 1gb, then use one of your 256mb which is what I do. That gives me plenty of RAM and I never need more than that.

    Its costing me €137 ($148) to go from 512MB, 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM Memory (2 x 256MB) to 1GB 533MHz DDR2 Memory (2 x 512MB).

Am i better off going with 512MB and then upgrading the laptop myself when it arrives?

thats too much for having additional 512mb at a lower speed...
not sure if u have something like newegg in uk, but 2x1gb sticks are around $150 on newegg...
