So I purchased a 2gb stick from newegg to bring my total installed up to 4gb. I understand that a 32-bit system will not recognize the full 4 gigs but for some reason it still only reads the 3 gigs I previously had in it. After installation, and upon restart, it gave no indication of new hardware and I cant seem to find it when I search. Any suggestions other than the RAM simply being bad. The one thing that seriously puzzles me is if the stick is bad why does the computer still read 3gigs when only 2gigs would technically be working of the 4 installed. Please help.

So you had 3GB or RAM already, THEN you removed a 1GB stick and replaced it with a 2GB stick?
Totalling 4GB?
You are using a 32-bit OS?
Try goto WEI, and it should notify you that the score is inaccurate as new hardware is detected and then it finish and will show you 3GB again.
32bit OS only shows 3GB unless you are using SP1 or a 64bit OS where it will show 4GB installed
BUT still only 3GB will be utilized in 32-bit
edit : brb, finding where i saw 4GB shown somewhere, I recently upgraded to 4Gb too and i remember seeing 4GB
OK found it, it was in my 'TOSHIBA PC Diagnostic Tool', it shows 4GB in it. While every other Windows based program (system information, task manager, system etc...) only shows 3069MB -
Yes, 3GB already.
Vista 32-Bit OS SP1 is installed.
Already went to WEI and refreshed it, no change.
I know only 3-3.5GB can be utilized.(Got it for $27 at newegg)
Thanx for the input though!! -
So I swapped locations of the sticks and viola. Thanx again.

By the way, the actual process of removing the old ram and installing the new is very simple.
