I am thinking on buying D630 with a small amount of memoery and then upgrading to 2GB when 800 MHZ memories are available. Is it a good idea? Will it void the guaranty?

santa rosa DOES NOT support 800 mhz ram. just b/c the fsb is 800 mhz doesn't mean that the ram needs to be 800 mhz. it will be a waste of your money to get 800 mhz ram, as your computer will just downclock it to 667.

Thanks. What about the warranty then? Does changing the memory void the manufacture warranty?

technically it does....but i have yet to hear of a single incident where dell has voided someone's warranty due to changing ram, and it happens very frequently. to be safe, just keep your old stick, and if you have to send it in, put your old stick back in.
