I've been looking at ultraportables for the last few weeks and am really interested in the X1.

I remember seeing somewhere that replacing the memory in an X1 voids your warranty; is there any validity to this? The user accessible DIMM is located under the keyboard as I understand it.

Dell charges $400+ for a 1gb stick when configured with the computer; only about $140 when you buy from their memory site. Obviously, this is a pretty substantial difference!

    Thanks for any help.

You can confirm with support, but I really don't think so, even if it is under the keyboard. Worst case, if you need to send it in for service, switch the modules back.
