there is no single brand of RAM that dell or any other company uses. dell buys in bulk from whomever can fill the order.

Most all of the parts dell uses for their notebooks are different. RAM, HD, Optical Drive, and the Screen brands often vary even with the same notebook model. You can really never be sure what you are going to get with dell ;) They are such a huge company, not one manufacturer can fulfill their order.

Last time I bought one I was given samsung memory and it turns out at the time samsung was price fixing! Anyway I have since replaced it with crucial ram-american made, high quality and built from the ground up rather than just rebranded.

I've had 3-4 hard drives from dell for the same machine and they've all been different brands:hitachi, fujitsu, IBM

Crucial is the marketing arm for Micron memory. Micron fabricates memory components in the US, Europe and Asia. All memory products are assembled and tested in Singapore.

    You're fine. It's DDR2 memory, so it's 2X266.
