I have a dell inspiron 6400 that came with 2 512g memory sticks. I ordered a 1g upgrade from dell and installed it with no problem. I later decided tp replace my other 512g stick with another 1g stick which I ordered from Dell. The second stick is identical to the first but when I installed it the computed would not accept the memory. I got the infamous blue screen. When i installed the old 512g stick everything worked fine. Any help would be appreciated.

    Regards,

    Kobalt

You might want to fully shutdown your laptop. Don't put it into hibernate.

Dont really know where he said he never turned it off...but ok.

Here is what I would do. Put the 1gb stick back in (with your computer turned off of course). If you get the blue screen, write down the error code. Call up Dell, tell then what happened, give them the code, and they will check what the error code means. If its something like its just a dud stick of RAM, they will replace it for you.

Thanks for your help. I did not turn the computer off, I had just put it in hibernate mode. I now have 2g of memory.

    Thanks again,
