I sure wish the 14" and 15" inspirons would have the option for Merom.

And **** they are expensive !!!

They are selling the upgrade to merom for more than it's supposed to cost retail boxed.

    yeah its rediculous

    $375 to go from 1.86 to 2.16
    $775 to go from 1.86 to 2.33

How is that extra .17 possibly worth $400 :(
Its hard enough to justify $375 from 1.86 to 2.16 let alone an extra .17 for $400 more

If there was a jump in performance it might be worth it. You shouldn't be thinking just in terms of GHz numbers anymore. A Merom will outperform an equally-rated Yonah. You can't do it exactly because the clock speeds don't match up exactly (1.86 for merom vs. 1.83 for yonah). But the benchmarks out there don't show the kind of performance increases these prices would justify, even if you disregard the clock speeds.

The prices right now can only be explained by Dell charging a premium to those who just HAVE to have the latest stuff and are willing to pay extra. Prices will probably come down a bit in coming weeks.

I just cancelled my order from Saturday and placed a new order this morning. It was only a difference of 99.00 for me to go from the 2 ghz core duo to the core 2 duo 2 ghz. Well worth the money in my opinion.

yeah that doesnt seem too bad. $99 I would say is worth it. The Core 2 will ourperform the other and I would say $99 is worth it.

I think the real price arguments are upgrading to an even higher clock speed.

No way would going from 1.86 to 2.33 justify $800 in my opinion.

Jeeze Dells upgrade prices are ridiculous, $300 to go from a Duo to the lowest Duo2 processor? That's not worth it at all.

A 20% boost in performance is not worth it right now. Unless your an audio video editor, and need all that power, stick with Core Duo for now since its plenty enough already for todays tasks.

Ok, I did it again! I've cancelled my order from yesterday because I was able to configure a better system today and it ended up 100.00 less. Dell is all over the place with their pricing. I added bluetooth today and changed the ram to 633 also the dvd burner wasn't free today either. Weird!

dude, check out my thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=74856, you might wanna order one more time :), i got a similar spec'd system, except i got 4yr warranty, geforce 7900, 3 yr antivirus subscription, and the intel pro wireless w/bluetooth for $1552. In a nutshell I think for an extra $10 you can have a much better system!
