Well, I've got a two week old e1705 (and love it) but the other day I tried plugging in a headset. The headphones work fine but I can't get ANYTHING over the microphone. I know the headset works so it isnt that. I tried fooling with my sound settings (just making sure nothing was muted for the most part) but that didn't help. It doesnt bother me that much but I would like it to function, anyone have any ideas? (I didn't have the money to buy the extended warranty plans, now I'm freaking paranoid, ha, mistake)

Hey spooky, I think it comes with a 1 year warranty at the very least? On the top of my head, maybe it needs new drivers?
-
Yeah, thats the first thing I tried (new drivers), but figure this, it was shipped with the latest drivers! I was dumb founded when I saw that, I had never known a computer company to do such a thing, ha.

Just curious, when you guys plugged in your mic did you get a popup Audio System Event? This sets for either line in or microphone. It may be "jammed" line in if you got a bent driver.
-
yeah when i plug it in a popup appears to ask me what device i plug in. i select microphone and still cant get my voice recorded for testing.
-
Yup, same here.

Strange, mine work without a hitch when I set up my webcam - everything went quite smoothly for a change I might add

Have you tried this? Go to your control panel and open up Sounds and Audio Devices. Click on the Audio tab and verify the Sigma Tel Audio is your default sound playback device, and Sigma Tel Audio is your default sound recording device. If "Use only default devices" is checked, uncheck it. Click on the Voice tab. Verify Sigma Tel Audio is your default voice playback device, and Sigma Tel Audio is your default voice recording device. Click on the Volume button. Verify the Line In and Microphone sliders are about in the middle. Verify the Microphone "Select" box is ticked. Now, click Test hardware. Hopefully everything works now.

Huh, everything is set to sigma tel audio...and I did the hardware test and I could hear myself on the mic. Let me try recording something and see if it worked. Thanks.
