    Hi All,
I have the Inspiron 9300 with an Intel Mini-PCI wireless card from Dell installes connecting to a Linksys WRT54GS router and like every one In am getting dropped connections all the time

I put in my "old" Proxim WD-8270 PCMCIA card and have not had any drops what so ever with excellent speed and range...however this "solution" has used the only PCMCIA available in the 9300..and i would prefer to keep it open so I can use the slot for transfering my digitial pictures from my camera

I was wondering if the crappy Intel card can be replaced with another Mini PCI wireless card say using an athroes chipset or does Dell "lock" their bios so you can't put in any other card ???

I found a place called Netgate that sells Mini-PCI wireless cards

    http://www.netgate.com/index.php?cPath=26_34&sort=3a&filter_id=23

Will this work or are we stuck with the crappy Intel card and constant connection problems ???

By the way whay does it take 5 windows processes to run 1 card..where as the Athroes based card are much more effecent ???

    Any suggestions would be helpful......shkj

normally the minipci card can be easily replaced...as for the connections problem I experience the same thing with the crappy Intel card. However it's not very friendly with WZC...you have to use the Proset/Wireless...I'm also looking forward to replace my crappy Intel card.

There are several long threads about this issue, try a frums search. But in general make sure you have the latest router and wireless card firmware.
