    Hi everyone!

I've had a Dell Studio 1537 P8400 @ 2.26 GHz with 3 GB ram, Vista 32-bit OS since December last year, and only in the past couple of months have i had a few problems, much to my disappointment that Dell hasn't increased their quality..

I've noticed a little "blemish" behind the screen, like a little cluster of dust 0.5mm in diameter, but its BEHIND the text and graphics...quite strange but such a pain as its in the middle-left of the screen..there's also another, half the size right up the top..

The touchpad likes to freeze, or malfunction every now & then - i'll be scrolling & it'll begin then jump frantically whichever direction i move it to, as if it freezes, and appears over the other side. Then i go to move it SLIGHTLY and it jumps across the screen, like its ULTRA sensitive, its pathetic.

The other problem is something minor but the most annoying of all. All of a sudden whenever i'd select ANYTHING on the screen, even a blank area, the cursor selects a blinking "text line" as if i was about to type.. anywhere on the page, in relation to the dimensions of the graphics (i.e. selecting in the field next to this page, presents the flashing line next to a text line, or the whole box line in general..)

It suddenly began doing this, and the options for the touchpad/selection cursor are so basic that its pathetic...

Please help, i've had no luck in terms of trying to find Dell Tech Support for these...

Chat online with Dell tech support, they'll be able to help you with the dust or whatever it is behind your display.

As for the touchpad, the erratic behavior is pretty common among Alps touchpads (including those on the Studio 1535/1537). It's just something you'll have to deal with.

As for the accidental clicking of the touchpad, open the Dell Touchpad properties, and you can set the touchpad to respond to a heavier touch instead of a light brushing, to minimize the chance of the touchpad reacting accidentally.

Thanks for that I'll give it a go.. And that's pretty dodgy with the touchpad!

Nah, regardless of the weight of touch, you should be able to click anywhere on the screen, without a flashing "typing bar" appearing, like there's ALWAYS one on the screen somewhere.. Even clicking on buttons/links the bar appears in line with the text, even a HUGE one along side boxes..its quite weird, kinda hard to explain..

You mean even if you click outside of a text box, a typing bar appears in the nearest text window? That is pretty unusual. If that's the case, it sounds like a software issue. Does this happen in every program that uses text (Notepad, Word, Internet Explorer/Firefox, etc.) or something specific?

Does he maybe mean in browsers? Maybe you turned caret browsing on? If you're using Firefox, press F7 to turn it off.

OH MY GAWDD!! what is 'caret browsing' cause F7 just worked!!! thats incredible, & so simple!! - its been bothering me for AGES! But yes that was the problem, there was a cursor ANYWHERE and ANY size, depending on the size/dimensions of the area it was clicked in.. gosh thanks heaps!

I'm still trying to find out how to get rid of this 'dust' in the BACKbackground of myscreen...such a bother, and this laptops only 4/5 months old, how can it gather dust/particles BEHIND/INSIDE the screen? that just baffles me.. & pisses me off.

Call tech support about that. That's really not supposed to happen.

And the F7 thing in Firefox is news to me too.
