The one thing I hate about working at a PC shop is we see a lot of dell's and a few of those remind me of my pampered and fully pimped out D600 I had untill 2-years ago when I sold it thru work after my boss told me one of his business buddies really really liked MY D600 :( Given he raped the guy and I got more than what it was worth but everytime I see a D600 come thru the shop I think about how reliable that damned thing was and how outstanding it did on the extended batteries getting 3 - 5+ HRS on a single battery :'(

Out of all the PC's I've ever owned I've never missed anything like that workhorse.

Anyone else regretting selling one of their babies? I feel like a bad parent here and I've been reminded about once every month to two for the last 2 years as I keep seeing D600's roll in the shop :(

I'm going to regret selling my pink 1520. I did a lot to that thing ... upgraded motherboard, graphics card, cpu, memory and had it since my second year of college.

The thinkpad ... I couldn't have been happier to see that thing go.

Although I love my current laptop, I have to admit I am sad to see my vostro sit on the desk in my office pulling server duty. Minus the nvidia fiasco the rig has been nothing but a dream to use. If it was able to use a quad core CPU I would still be using it. Oh well my new rig has everything I need and more.

I've never sold an old laptop up until my Precision M70. Resale value compared to purchase price is so bad, it makes more sense to keep the system as a spare or test PC. So far, all of my cousins' first computers are retired computers from my family. I don't want to sound philosophical, but seeing the old systems being used for a much better purpose is indeed a lot more fulfilling than a couple hundred dollars. The M70 was an exception as it is a pretty heavy and specialized system, so I sold it to a friend who would put it to good use.

My D630 won't be going anywhere though, it is a nice reminder of how excellent the D-series was. The Precision M2300 LCD cover that I swapped onto it only made it even better as a keepsake. :D

I think I know how you're feeling. I once worked with a D600. It traveled around the world with me constantly. When I discontinued my job I had to hand in this precious one.
I was so impressed by this laptop I bought myself a D610. I upgraded it later with a M780 2.26GHz CPU, 2GB, 250GB. I'm typing with it as now as we speak. I use it the most still, although I can choose from a lot as you can see in my signature. I think I'll keep it as long as possible.

I know what you mean. I have a bad habit of getting attached to my computers (though not as much as some people I know, one of whom still refuses to upgrade from an old Latitude CPx)

I've been using the D600's direct competitor, the Compaq Evo N620c (which has the dubious distinction of being the last commercial product to carry the Compaq logo), for the last six years. I'm looking at newer models now, but I don't particularly have any desire to part with the Evo. It went to every class in college with me and has been through a lot. It's had its LCD and mainboard replaced under warranty but in six years I can't complain. And it has a feature that none of the current crop of business notebooks offer: a 14.1" 1400x1050 CTFT display. No widescreen to be found. Too bad Compaq crippled it with an ATI Radeon 7500 GPU. And it looks good too...a simple silver and black design.
