I realized only a day after I placed an online order, that the billing address of the credit card was wrong. I called Dell up and the representative told me the order is in Preproduction (verified on Dell Order Status website) and that the option to change any option is "locked". And he went further to tell me that the order should be billed.

I didn't realize orders can be billed even if the billing address is wrong. What is going on? Should I call them again and ask if i can change the billing address?

i don't think that rep knew what he was talking about. i would call back and talk to someone else.

u get billed when the order ships. with an incorrect billing address, it will kick back out and your order will get cancelled.

if you can't get any help, i would cancel the current order and re-order.

You're probably ok as long as your shipping address was right. In my experience credit card companies mostly care that the shipping address matches the credit card. Also, dell may not take your money until the stuff ships, but they do validate your card right after you place the order.

I had a similar problem when I ordered my laptop 3 weeks ago. I noticed my billing address was messed up right after I placed the order, but the shipping address was right. I called my bank immediately after placing the order online and it turned out Dell had already placed a hold on the money in my account (i.e. the charge was accepted)! So, your probably ok. But you can call your bank or Dell and see if anything went wrong.

Try and call a different dell rep. Then if they dont help you, cancel the order then.
P.S. How did the billing address become wrong and how did you find out?
