I'm in the process of purchasing a Vostro 1500. Was wondering if this is a mistake on dell's part when I select a new cpu

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T8100 (2.1GHz/800Mhz FSB/3MB cache) [add $670]

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T9300 (2.5GHz/800Mhz FSB/6MB cache) [add $500]

is that suppose to be correct?

It happens. Take advantage of the "oh so great $500 for a processor" deal.

Dont have a desire to spend the additional $500 but if the 8100 was only $100 more like on the vostro 1700 i'd like to pick that up since I"m having ahard time reaching the $1250 mark.

What is really weird about this is that the upgrade to the T8100 on the vostro 1400 costs $250 as opposed to the $670 upgrade on the vostro 1500.

A dell representative I talked to on the phone seemed to think that if it was listed with that price, it really costs $670 for the upgrade - doesn't make sense to me though.

I know - how can the same processor upgrade cost $420 more on the vostro 1500!

You guys are looking way too far into this. This isn't "logically determine what Dell should set its prices at", it's "buy it if you like the price, go away if you don't".

Well it's not looking far into it or telling Dell how to set their prices, but it is just blatantly wrong pricing. lol. :p

A weaker upgrade shouldn't cost more than a better one. Period.

Well, like I said, it's happened before, and many times at that. Usually the result of over/understocking and/or actual price fluctuations from (insert company here).
