What the hell is the deal? ON BOOT I have at least 80 if not more. I have gotten rid of spyware done a virus scan and widdled down my boot list. I have like 23 svchost.exe's running. What do I do?

Have you gone through the services that are running and disabled the unnecessary ones?
-
They are just going to come on again on the next boot.

If you have that many processes running, you really do need to disable a lot of those processes. Just type services into the search in the start menu to get to the services window. In there, you can double-click on a service and change it to disabled.
After doing this, I managed to get my Vista Ultimate down to 42 processes on startup. Runs very nicely like this.

You can use the blackviper site's chart to get a "safe" configuration of services. -

It just depends on what software you are running. Most of those probably don't even use any cpu cycles and only use minimal memory. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Welcome to the world of Vista.
Follow the tweaks link posted above to rid some un-used processes. BE SURE you don't disable a service you use or will use in near future.
Mmmmm 89 processes?
