If you want to keep your graphics card drivers up to date it's the only way you're going to do it with a laptop. Modding the installation files is quite common thing for laptop owners to do, or downloading someone elses modifications. There's little risk to doing it, most of the time the only difference is that the official drivers lack some idenfication codes for your particular make and model on the card and are otherwise fully compatible. Video card drivers have been unified architecture ever since really.

It's actually an extremely popular utility among the ATi mobile gaming community. It's as legit as it gets.

okay.. I guess I messed up, and I don't know how to fix it. I tried using the mobility modder, and everything happened the way it was supposed to.

After the final step and reboot, my driver detail shows I'm still on driver 8.5 and the Catalyst Control Center doesn't even open.. Gives me an error and shuts down. I tried uninstalling everything and redid everything.. Still no luck. WHAT TO DO?! IS THIS A VISTA PROBLEM?!

    Link to Catalyst 9.9

The difference is Catalyst 9.9 doesn't mean GFX drivers version 9.9. I've got Catalyst 9.7 and my driver version is 8.6##########. Guess its time to upgrade...

As for your errors though, I can't help you out much. Make sure that UAC was turned off.

HOLY CRAP! I am f*****.. I tried reverting back to the old CCC and drivers and the CCC still won't work! I'll try the 9.9 which you sent me turbo. You sure these are for the notebook 4570s as well? Seeing you also have the 1555, I am assuming they are.

Thanks! AND LETS HOPE THINGS WILL BE FIXED.

BTW, I DID DO EVERYTHING THE INSTRUCTIONS MENTIONED. EVEN TURNED OFF UAC.

Another question.. whats TZ00, TZ01, and TZ02? Its listed under ACPI in HWMONITOR and i'm noticing that TZ02 doesn't go below 70C and I AM JUST USING FIREFOX! This is happening I believe since I tried the mobility modder installation. Is that possible? SOLUTIONS?!

Same thing happened to me, jawedib.

I ran mobility modder, followed all the instructions to every last detail, and it didn't work. I just ended up doing a system restore & sticking will the drivers dell provided. >.<

the 9.8 ones work but for some reason the 9.9 isn't working for me
i installed the 9.9 the same way and it says it succeeded but when i open my control center and look at the catalyst version it says 9.8 beta. Anyone else getting this issue?

The catalyst control center won't even run for me! I tried installing the 9.9. My drivers got updated to 8.6 though and I noticed instability in Assassins Creed at some points. That is the only game I tried with the new drivers. Perhaps a lose-lose situation :(

I'm also getting this problem with the 9.9 version.

Is the 9.8 version fairly stable? Has it improved performance?

I installed 9.9 last night and had no issues. I haven't had a chance to try the card in any games. If you're still having issues, make sure to uninstall EVERYTHING ATI-related before you reinstall the drivers. Then run CCleaner to clean up whatever is left.

One thing I've noticed using Windows 7 (And the same thing probably happens under Vista) is that Windows Update is constantly ATI drivers, these are probably older drivers and not necessary if you're using the modded ATI drivers. Note that I'm saying probably, I really can't be sure.

TZ02 is the temp sensor on your video card. Mine is sitting at 54oC right now running FF and Word documents. Ambient is a little cool right now since I right beside an exterior door, so its probably around 18oC. I'm also using the laptop on a desk.

I attached a screenie of my CCC Details after installing 9.9, I'm going to reinstall the ones W7 keeps sending me and compare the two.

EDIT: I reinstalled the drivers Win7 Update keeps sending me and it reverts me back to the Catalyst 9.7. So don't bother with those if they come up.

    PROBLEM RESOLVED!

What I did was I removed EVERYTHING ATI related. I tried that before too and it didn't work then. But what I did now was, after uninstalling everything, I deleted the C:\Program Files\ATI folder completely from the HD. Then installed the 9.8 CCC and drivers since people are saying 9.9 has a few problems. Worked! Yay. I should be able to use 9.9 as well.. will try later maybe.

So... How will the modded drivers help? Do I need to do anything or will I just magically see gaming improvement?

Hey! I know you manofest! I actually looked at your Dell Studio 15 performance on youtube before getting it myself! :D I also believe I bothered you with a few questions before YOU directed to me these forums.. :)

So far, I am actually noticing a few problems with these drivers.. Or I'm noticing TOO HARD. All I'm noticing now is Assassins Creed won't run as well. I THINK it ran better before. I also got hold of SC Double Agent and tried them with these modded drivers ONLY.. Is working pretty well right now maxed out :) Except the anisotropic filtering is at 2x or 4x I think.

What I think is that these drivers just make the card work harder somehow. My temperature readings have been off the chart :(

I guess Far Cry 2 will decide it. That's the game I've played the most with the original Dell drivers. Will let you know how well it runs on the modded drivers. Plus I also get the FPS count on that game.

Hmm, odd. 9.9 w/ Mobility Modder installed just fine for me without uninstalling whatever version Dell provides.

I've been jumping back and forth between 9.9 and 9.7 to do a little testing and it was choppy under 9.7, but not 9.9. So i'll be changing back to 9.9 asap.

ok so apparantly the 9.9 catalyst drivers on the catalyst page posted earlier are good
What failed before for me was trying to install the 9.9 drivers that were given to me when i navigated through the driver drop down menus at ati.com
The 9.9 drivers on that page didnt work for me even after modding

EXACTLY! Download your drivers from ATI.com, remove EVERYTHING ATI RELATED FIRST and then go on with the modding process.. works! Am on 9.9 right now! yay!

Assassins Creed I THINK is working better.. Not noticing choppiness that much.
