How does this graphics card perform in the Dell I6000? I've seen people saying it sucks and people saying it's good and wondering if it can play UT2K4, HL2, etc.
Welllll.... I just wanted to let people know that my I6000 with integrated IMA900 graphics is capable of playing UT2K4 at 1280x800 and settings to low. I hear people saying that the MRX300 can barely do that... What the hell? And I'm playing with a 1.3Ghz Celeron M processor!
Has anyone actually played any games with this card? I'm about to order the X300 128mb from Dell spare parts so I can upgrade and I want to know if it's really worth it.
Thanks!

I was told on the forums on the Dell website that I could. Hopefully that is true. But I never did mention that I had the Celeron M processor... Well, I asked if I could upgrade to a Pentium M CPU and apparently I can. Maybe that mean the video card will also work??

Are you sure you're going to be able to upgrade your machine with that graphics card? I'm pretty sure if you get the Celeron M and integrated graphics the motherboard is going to be different and unable to support simply adding that card.

I Have the 6000d with the X300 128 MB graphics card. I'm not a hardcore gamer but I have played Doom and Rome: Total War on it. Compared to my old desktop that had a Geforce 4 MX 64 MB in it, my 6000d runs games 2 times better. I can run Doom 3 at 800x600 with medium detail and shadows on. At this setting, I get good fps. Anything higher though and my framerate drops to the point that the game is unplayable. Rome: Total War plays great! I have it set to 1280x800 with details on medium to high and the game never slows down. The X300 is a low budget card but it gets the job done. Another year from now though, I doubt it will be able to handle very many new games that well. But it is worth getting with your laptop. Also, I agree what the others said in this forum. I'm not sure if you can add a X300 to a 6000 Dell laptop that has a integrated graphics card. You might want to make 100% sure before you purchase the X300 form dell.

I'm thinking that the motherboard with the celeron / intergrated video card differs significantly from the motherboards using Pent M Sonomas / pciexpress. I could be wrong but I'm guessing you can't upgrade mainly for that reason. Hopefully dell in the future will have a newer card like ati X800 or something.
What I'm curious about is if you can buy a card that is pciexpress laptop from some other company and if it will fit into a dell casing. Or if you have to wait till dell releases a new card and say this was made and is compatible with so and so computers.

So, the regular I6000 should have a PCI-Express port. Also, I was told on the Dell website forums that as long as I get the X300 for the I6000d it will work.
I guess there's only one way to find out for sure though, I think I'm ordering the card today from Dell spare parts.
Thanks for the info on Doom 3! I'm glad to hear it's playable.
Cards besides the X300 for the I6000? So far, that's impossible. The card is not standard, it is fitted by Dell for the I6000 only. For now we have to wait until they offer a new card for the 6000. I'm not sure if they will though, because they want to keep up sales on the higher end gaming-oriented laptops (9300 and XPS Gen2).

I just bought the part from Dell, so I'll see eventually. I've been told more than one time that I can upgrade so I'll hope for the best. I'll sell or return it if it doesn't work.
BTW, yes. I'm aware what "integrated" means, and it doesn't mean that you can't upgrade.

That's what I have in my laptop now. Here's a quote fom that page:
"PCI Express* x16 port available; Single platform can be deployed for broad range of client user needs, allowing upgrades to higher performance 3D graphics cards if required."

let us know how it goes. if you're successful, there's probably a lot of early adopters who got the i6000 before the x300 was available that might like to upgrade as well.
