How can I stop this? I know it will give my battery a shorter life, but I'd like to see it at full brightness while on battery. And I haven't really tested to see how long it runs on the battery. I'm sure not very long.

You really cant, most screens are always brighter when plugged in no matter what, even if you boost the screen brightness while on battery it wont be as high as if it were plugged in.

There are settings in the BIOS to set screen brightness on battery.

    this is incorrect.

you can change the default behavior in the BIOS (as schemula says) or you can just hit Fn+up/down arrow to adjust brightness. IIRC, the BIOS will also automatically remember whatever the brightness-on-battery setting is if you set a level and then shut down gracefully.

you have to be running Quickset for the Fn key combo to work.
