A couple of weeks ago: The monitor suddenly went black, and wouldn't go past the Dell splash screen after rebooting.

I called the Dell tech-phone, and a nice person from Ireland guided me through all sorts of software tests; no use. He then asked me to open the machine and pull out and re-insert the plug connecting the monitor to the mother board. This made the monitor work normally -- for 3 weeks, when the same thing happend. Same operation: I opened the machine and reinserted the monitor plug, and now it works, probably for another couple of weeks.

This is strange, because a) the monitor plug didn't seem to be loose at all, and b) the screen goes to black at exactly the same place in the boot sequence, each time.

    Is this bios related?

    Anyone?

The same has happened for many M1210's (including mine running Windows MCE), where during Windows bootup, the screen simply goes black and does not return. The hard drive may still be crankin' (or not), but that's the general idea.

I've heard so many theories about it having to do with Webcam drivers, DAEMON, etc. etc. Many have said they solved the problem with a simple uninstallation because the problem apparently spawns out of some driver conflict, but I don't think anyone has the definitive solution yet.

No one else has responded, so I'm trying to help best I can. All I know is that your problem is a common one amongst M1210 owners, and you'd be wise to search it up around here or elsewhere given what you know now. My M1210 was 'fixed' when I installed Windows Vista Business, so I never quite had to truly remedy the problem myself.

Good luck, man. I hope you manage to fix it.

Thanks for your reply. I'll call Dell Support again, anyway; I'd be puzzled if they don't have an answer...

This happened to me a couple times on 2 different M1210, so I don't doubt that it's a common problems among M1210 owners.
My "fix" is to put the system into sleep mode when black screen occurs during start up. Then when I wake up the computer again, everything works normally.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem? Its happened a couple of times and resolved after numerous reboots. However, it just hit my comptuer a couple days ago and still has not resolved.

What happens is that the monitor turns off right after the initial windows loading splash screen.

I've run all the dell diagnositics (the monitor stays on the whole time there) and it passed all of them. I've tried restoring the system to before and interestingly the monitor stayed on long enough for windows to load my desktop and long enough for me to hit okay to accept the restore changes. Right after i hit okay, monitor turns off.

I just started to have this problem after 2 years of buying my XPS 1210. Mine will go black randomly and sometimes I was getting a white screen. It got worse so I took it to a repair shop. They said they were 99% sure it was the interverter. I have not gotten it back yet. I don't want to spend alot of money trying to find out the problem. Dell should recall these computers and fix them if it is a driver issue. I will post back when I get it back to let you know if it has been resolved. If anyone has learned anything new please let me know before I spend more money. Thanks!
