In fact, the Centrino 2 notebooks running Intel’s own integrated graphics will not be available on Monday. Only Centrino 2 systems running discrete graphics from NVIDIA or ATI will be available on Monday.

    http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=12331

So does this mean dell studios and xps laptops will be getting centrino 2 on monday, or do we still have to wait a while before centrino 2 is put in?

    thanks for your answers

It is normally a week or so before they are updated, and a month or so before anybody gets one hands on.

i think that people shouldnt have jumped on the studio bandwagon so quickly... montevina is due to be out soon, and if you read the docs on the studio, it already shows you that dell designed the studio laptops to use the new platform (i remember seeing that it will use the GM45 chipset)

That look's pretty good. What are you planning to use it for? If your going to play a lot of games, then I would wait, but if not, then this should provide enough proformance to get what you need done.

If your purchase is basically for school then you have more than enough power for the next several years. ;)

When Santa Rosa was announced it really wasn't the giant leap from the previous platform that the experts made it out to be. I was in your situation because Santa Rosa was announced and was on schedule to be released about a month after I placed my order for a T60. I'm glad I didn't wait because the T60 is more than enough for what I need.

The Studio 15 looks to be a really nice computer. You never know with technology. Montevina could be a let down like Santa Rosa or it could blow everyone away. I've been around technology enough to know that it will probably be somewhere in between a letdown and living up to the hype. And you know what? Within 6-8 months of Montevina you read of the latest, "gee I gotta have that new platform by Intel". Rinse and repeat. :p

My advice, if you don't need your laptop and you can wait another month then it will probably help you against buyers remorse. But keep in mind that you will probably pay more for the new stuff and will have to wait in line when everyone else is buying the latest can't miss gadget. ;)

I don't see Dell increasing their products price. If they do something they will keep the price and drop something in the standard build.
Edit: What's the 20% coupon for the Studio?

Not really more expensive, but they wont have any rebate.

    Montevina wont blow anything away.

With new tech there's usually if not always an increase albeit slight. Take for example the Vostro 1500 vs Vostro 1510. There was a decent gap and not just a slight one between the two.

The biggest problem with new models be it a new platform or model is availability. If the OP wants or needs his laptop very soon then i'm afraid he's going to have to wait a while as supplies will be limited until Dell ramps up production. But you never know the OP could get lucky. ;)

I am planning on getting a Dell XPS M1530 for school, but will be playing games and using it for media applications. Should I wait for the new Centrino 2 (Montevina) or go ahead and buy one today? I need it by the time I go to college.

the dell website is kinda updated today, it says "NEW M1530" instead of M1530 (though its the same m1530), and M1330 remains as "M1330"....so i guess the only upgrade would be new penyrn processors
