I was just going to buy a Studio 15, even typed in my CC info... but then I saw something about the Centrino 2 Montevina platform coming soon. One guy here even claimed mid August for the Studio line.

So, what advantages would it have?

Is it worth waiting a few weeks for, assuming it's really coming to the Studios in August?

    Thanks.

Advantages of the Montevina CPUs are: faster FSB, larger L2 cache, and lower power consumption which means better battery life for your notebook :)

I would wait it out if you're not in a rush to get a notebook.

It'll also make short work of all deals Dell has now on their laptops. Expect to pay full price again.

PS: I would wait it out, new technology like this is always fun to have + better battery life.

I'm not too much in a rush, so yeah, I can wait.

How much faster would it really be? How much more battery time would we really get? Not sure I care about extra speed, but battery time matters.

Price is an issue though. Right now, for $999 you can get an amazing Studio 15 configuration, with LED screen, T8100 CPU, 320GB HD etc. and all the goodies (backlit KB etc,). It's really, really tempting since my budget is $1000.

Sounds like when Montevina comes, the same Studio config may cost a lot more?

Ok, I did a little basic research. Centrino 2 sound sreally good!

I don't know how mcuh to believe what Intel says, but they claim:

    • Up to 50% faster performance when multitasking‡1
    • Up to 2X greater range and up to 5X better wireless performanceΔ2
    • Designed for the longest possible battery life
    • Up to 90% faster performance on intensive multimedia applications like HD video encoding‡2

    From: http://www.intel.com/Consumer/Learn/Notebook/centrino-detail.htm

    Pretty impressive!

But how expensive would the Studio 15 be with Centrino 2, that's my big question. So annoying to be only a few weeks away from this, I would feel dumb buying one now if I can get Centrino 2 for close to the same price in a few weeks.

Any idea how much more expensive?

Do you think I should just go for the current Studio 15 deal for $999, give my $1000 budget?
