It seems to point that way that the Studio line will replace the XPS. The specs are identical to the XPS line so it really does not make much sense to have to identical series of laptops. I think with Dell wanting to have the Alienware models take over as the gaming machines, the introduction of the Studio line makes perfect sense to replace XPS as the higher end consumer line.

Not my intention. My point is that the XPS m1530 seems to be one of Dell's best selling products. Killing it so early after its release just doesn't seem like a smart move to me. In any case, the sale on the current XPS ends October 22nd, meaning that they'll at least be around until that time frame.
Ayepecks, don't get me wrong, I understand exactly what you are saying. And once again, I'm not trying to argue, we're just both trying to get people to see two possibilities, not to settle on one.
To me, however, it seems that XPS will either be downsized (to only the m1330) or removed. The Studio line will replace the current XPS m1530 and/or m1330, and the XPS 1730, etc will merge (more or less) with the Alienware. But I'm saying...Dell is adding a new product line with the same specs as the XPS. According to engadget, studios will still have the 8600m GT with Penryn, MAYBE monteniva depending on its release time. -
can anyone answer this?
-
They are not replacing the Inspiron line, so yes you can still get one.
-
I get what you're saying, but you have to upgrade your laptops every once and a while. Who's to say people won't love the new 15.4" Studio laptop more than the m1530? And we still have to see what the new XPS lineup will be.
I don't think the XPS will be downsized or removed, personally. I consider it their high-end lineup, and I'm sure they'll treat it as such. I really hope they keep some sort of 13.3" laptop, however. -
My guess is that the m1330 will get a redesign and become the new 13.3" media-center model from Dell. Who knows, and I also see what you're saying. Sorry for the misunderstanding Ayepecks
.

Yeah, they've put themselves in a difficult position. They couldn't really upgrade the xps line now to separate it from the Studios because then they'll be treading on Alienware's toes. It's an interesting situation. I hope Dell gives us answers soon.
-
yes, in the newer ones i expect the 9700m gt in the m1530 and the 9800m gtx/s in the 1730
can't wait till Q4. thats when the new xps are though be shipped!
-
nooooooooooo! suffers heart attack. i like the xps line. maybe the xps line will stay but the studio line will also come. but i see ur point though. why have 2 series with the same parts. i wonder if the studio line will have BD? aleinware can can still have apart of dells gaming line but for people that want something decent like the m1530, can dell put in say a 9600m or a 9700m gt? the new toshiba f50 coming in july has a 9700m gt!

I dont know where you guys get your info but i read that the Studio line is midrange between Insp and xps with more features like art on the cover ect, dell also rumoured that they have new ideas for the xps line, but there has been 0 talk of killing the XPS line and guys, the M1530 is not considered a gaming laptop, it is a high end Multimedia laptop with midrange gaming, the only laptop i could see going is the XPS M1710 and moving that over to Alienware since the 15x series kills the M1710 for nearly the same cost.

Not from what I have seen. The Studio is aimed at exactly where the XPS stands. It wouldn't make sense to have the XPS compete with the Studio and Alienware. The XPS and Alienware design teams have also already been merged.

I think Dell will keep XPS line of notebooks, and the next refresh will have all the goodies that the new Studio line don't have. I guess the new XPS will have 16:9 display, DisplayPort in addition to VGA and HDMI, sans S-Video. I hope the new XPS will have optical SPDIF, like those in HP Pavilion notebook, instead of using a proprietary adapter thru the S-Video port. Anyway, this is not important, but I want them to add to XPS or other series also. Also, Dell is lacking a CD/DVD labeling feature on their notebook. While this is a feature that most people won't use it all the time, but it is indeed a neat feature. While HP own Lightscribe, I think may be Dell can add LabelFish to their notebook, if it is not owned by another competitor, I don't know. Also, I notice that all Dell notebooks have smaller than average touchpad. It is time for XPS to have a larger and wider touchpad, plus an on/off button like in those Pavilion and new Satellite. I am sure new XPS will have backlit keyboard also. My bottom line is the new Studio doesn't have enough new and high end features that will trump the XPS series.

best explanation i have heard regarding the XPS line and the studio line. XPS will probably be catered toward the Tech enthusiast where as the Studio line will be more of the Everyday Media User as the inspirion will be the bare minimal user.
-
wot type of intergrated gpu will there be if any of the option.
-
-
well seeing in the pictures that it says inspiron. maybe they will drop the main inspiron line and just have inspiron studio and xps.
-
Yeah, just look at the pricing. Unless they drop to maybe $399. lol. 32GB iPod Touch, or Inspiron...
