I've been having problems getting my Inspiron 1420 into standby as in, it won't go into standby at certain times. I've also noticed that it won't shutdown during these times and won't recognize things that aren't already plugged into the usb ports. I've been trying to figure out what's causing the problem and I think it has to do with my external hard drive. I put my laptop into standby with my external plugged in and it was fine. Then I unplugged my external and came out of standby and then couldn't get back into standby. More curious however, my external drive is still appearing in My Computer and I can click on it and explore it. All of the folders are empty but are still there even though the drive is unplugged. I tried ejecting the drive with Safely Remove Hardware but it just hangs. Thoughts?
