When I turn on my Dell Inspiron 8600, the mouse starts at the top of the screen and slowly "falls down." I can't control it. Does anyone know what the problem and solution are?[B)]

Yeah, your nubbie pointer guy is not calibrating correctly, I had this problem with my i8200 a while back. If you let it sit down in the corner for a few seconds, it should come back to life. I never did find a solution to the problem though.

    mouse problem? call the exterminator!
Try disabling the pointing stick. That should help for the short term. Update your drivers if possible. The problem might be that, to calibrate correctly, the trackstick has to be in an exactly neutral position. Try removing the little soft thingie on the stick and hold the stick centered upon startup.
