Having dvd burning issues, and contacted dell about these but I can't see a visible way to remove the DVD drive. I used to have a Inspiron 9100 which had a tab you could pull and the drive would slide out but on there isn't a visible tab on this system. Whilst burning (which constantly failed which was the first prob.) I found the system to slow down significantly and also experience distortion in the sound from itunes etc. This has only happened since burning began failing. I have a T2600 dual core, and 1gb ram so hardware shouldn't be the problem unless the ram is failing. Doe anyone have any insight on this please? Worst thing is I can't format the comp. as I can't burn my files to backup dvds, and can't make a diagnostics cd again for the same reason. Any help offered would be greatly appreciated, thanks!!! Liam

I just tried to burn a couple of data DVDs for the first time. Both seemed to write ok, but had read errors on verification. Also, during verification, there is click/clunk noise, maybe every 20-30 seconds or so.

    I have a Sony DW-Q58A in my E1505.

Which DVD-R do you have, and does this sound at all like your problem?

    try different media first.

also, even if i had a dual core, i wouldn't risk running other apps while burning.

I don't like reading bad things about dell laptops when I'm supposed to be receiving one in 3-5 days. Should I be worried that it was shipped out 5 days before the estimated date? Was it a rushed job? :(

yeah i had the sound whirring noise during verification, wouldn't worry about that had it for 6 months and it worked fine. it's when u get it throughout the whole burn process like i do now when you should worry!

Yea. There is a screw on the bottom. Remove it then push out the tab using a flat-head screwdriver or something. When you reinstall the drive (or install a new drive) make sure it clicks into place. Make sure you put that tab on the new drive so you can remove the drive later on. :)
