    Hi everyone.....

I just got an XPS 1530 and loaded XP on it from Vista (ugh)
I got all the correct drivers from the dell site after googling the hardware.

    I'm having the following issues.

    1. I get the RPC reboot (60sec) NT/Authority shutdown when I REMOVE my network cord from the RJ-45 socket (its the marvell yukon 88e8040)
there are no viruses/spyware on my machine so its NOT a blaster/sasser issue.

    2. every once in a while when I reboot or start my computer fresh the trackpad and keys are totally dead (no cursor movement or clicking). Its the Alps Touchpad.

    3. When the laptop comes out of sleep then the wifi refuses to work untill I hard reboot the machine. Repair does not work. The laptop connects to wifi but I can't surf. A "ping" command returns "hardware error"
My card is the Intel 4965AGN

    4. If my laptop is on sleep for 14 hrs.(from evening till next morning) I lose 20% of my battery life. My HP nc8320 that I had before this only lost 2% per night.

Would appreciate some help. I'm totally flummoxed. my drivers/bios are all up to date and no viruses on the laptop.

    1) Most likely your ethernet drive is crashing, or a program that uses networking is crashing. I suggest you update any/all drivers and software that use the Internet.

Additionally, before you disconnect the RJ45, write down all the processes shown in the task manager and all the services running (Start->Run->Services.msc). Then disconnect the cord, and as soon as your laptop gives you the 60s warning...go to Start->Cmd and type

    shutdown -a

This should halt the shut down. Now write up all the processes and services again, and see if something is missing or a service stopped running. That should help you narrow it down. Also go into the device manager (Right click My Computer->Manage->Device Manager) and see if you have Yellow Bangs (!) or any warnings on your networking drivers (right click on drivers->Properties).

    2) As usual, make sure your drivers are updated.

    3) I have had similar problems with Intel drivers recently. I'm not sure that there is anything you can do, other than go to www.Intel.com and try to find the latest drivers for your card.

    4) I suggest you use hibernate, as that does the same as sleep but completely shuts down the PC. Most likely that you didn't install XP correctly (did you disable SATA mode and not install the chipset drivers?) and it isn't ACHI aware.

I know you went and hunted each driver individually, but I'd like to recommend that you use one of the few driver packs floating about on this board [use search to find it] - I've used it and have had no problems.

Type services.msc on the run bar.

Find Remote Procedure Call (RPC). Double click it and go to the Recovery tab

Select "No action" for First, Second and Subsequent Failures then hit Apply. The default failure action is 'Restart the computer'

Also do the following to the RPC locator service if necessary

the problem is that after RPC fails intel speedstep fails too
and pc goes to MAX PERFORMANCE mode with insane cooler rotation etc

how have you solved this problem finally? i remember ms had some patch recently (2007, not blaster worm)
because I have the same problem with docking station removal :(
