Last night I shut off my notebook, not standby or anything. I woke up the next morning and the front lights, power button, and a few other lights were all on but the screen was black. I moved the mouse around and it did nothing and I pressed the power button and that also did nothing. I had to hold down the power button until all the lights went off.

    Any Ideas?

    Thanks

Could be it was updating, downloading or installing a download from Microsoft at the time you tried to Shutdown.

Could be the "Wake on LAN" is set to "Yes" in the BIOS. I dunno exactly how that works or what it's used for, but it sounds like it's an option for the computer to be turned on by a command sent via wifi or ethernet.

Wake On LAN is pretty buggy in my experiences. If you have that enabled I'd just turn it off and see if that fixes the problem.

Wake on LAN would not switch on a powered-Offmachine..it can only bring up a machine on standby

Most likely, it was an improper shutdown, where the machine did not shut down completely due to some hung process
