Well... tomorrow my 21 day window is up to return the XPS M1530... I was kinda hoping the new penryn was out so I could return the notebook and get that new cpu.
Oh well... I bet it comes out one day after!

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Well, you can still return it, wait until the Penryns come out, and order again...
Or buy your own Penryn, sell off whatever you have now, and eat the difference. -
I agree with Commander Wolf - if you are unsatisfied with the system as it is, you are only going to regret not returning it. I would return it, wait and order the m1530 when the penryn processor is released. At the same time, I would also urge you to consider whether the benefits of penryn truly justify the measures you will be taking if you decide to return the system
-
I wouldn't return it. Besides in 2 or 3 years you'll be able to get the new Octryns.
-
Well if they do add Penryn I hope it is tomarrow so you can still send it back!
-
for what??? all you get is 5 more min in battery life and some what % of performance like there is no difference :|
-
Agreed.
Unless of course you encode video for a living. Those precious seconds are priceless, probably. -
jack53, you might be chillingly correct on your prediction...

im convinced they looked at the sales numbers and not till march will we see it. They sold so many m1530s at the beginning of february they would have to wait for a good number of them to get beyond the 21 days, otherwise they assume too many people would call and want a price adjustment or return it.
-
Did you buy a laptop for the potential upgrades it might have within 21 days so you can return it, or did you buy a laptop because you needed/wanted one to use right away?
-
My guess is that they're just waiting for the 600 dollar coupon to expire today. I'm completely pulling this out of my ass but i would be surprised if it didn't show up tomorrow.
-
I'm pretty happy what I got now. I don't think I'd have the patience to wait the 2-3 weeks just to get a slighly better cpu.
I'll just wait 2-3 months for the prices to drop, then get one and drop it in.
-
Sounds Good! imo a t7500 is more than enough to handle any game, if that's what you plan to use the CPU for, and the GPU is probably the bottleneck of the system more than the CPU anyways. I believe it is only a worthwhile investment if you had a lower end CPU and plan to upgrade it, such as the T5470 I have in my 1500, but by far I have yet to see the need to do so, the T5470 is on the lower end of the CPU chain but it still really decent.
-
I mostly use my notebook for photo editing in Photoshop and I like to keep lots of pages open... so it works fine. I only play Madden Football and MS Flight once in a while.
I guess it is sorta like my Corvette's 700+ HP, I like power even though I don't need it.

I'd be happy with a T7500.
1.5Core2duo ftw! ... or not. -
Ahh...well
everyone likes power even though they don't need it, it's call showing off.
-
I think tonight's the night!
sightings of Penryn in Europe and Australia M1530's already. -
Look's like my prediction of the day after my 21 days will come true! Which is tomorrow.
Oh well... I've decided to be happy with I have for now and upgrade in 2-3 months. -
Hey .. just so you know, based on my experience with both Penryn and non-penryn versions of the M1330.. I have to say there really wasn't a huge difference between the two. My personal favorite was the lower clock speed Merom (T7250) which ran cool, had good battery life and also didn't whine...
I ended up with a T8300 for other reasons but really not a big upgrade.. so if you are happy with your current machine.. you should be fine... -
Thanks for the info. What notebook you have as I don't see it in your sig? The m1330?
-
Yep. It's an M1330.
-
When you do that, let me know and i might buy your old one.
-
A year from now you'll look back and realize that the difference was not worth fretting over.
-
Hmm an year from now there will be Nehalem will be out and we'll all be fretting about that
-
i want a t9300 which is an upgrade from my t7500 not in terms on 45nm versus 65nm but the clock speed is 300mhz faster too
-
IM me... that way I will remember when I do it. I'm looking at maybe May or June for sure.
-
A year from now, I'll probably buy a new notebook... I always do every year.
I sell the current one while it at least is still worth something and apply it toward the next one. -
you still have your first laptop so i think you didn't do that 20 years ago...
-
Nope... I had to hang onto that like I did my first dollar.
I'm gonna post in a little while why I couldn't send mine back even if I wanted to...
-
Pardon my ignorance, but within the 21 days can you just return your Dell notebook for any random reason?
I just got my 1330 a couple days ago and it seems to be working fine, but I only decided after working with it for a couple days that a 13in screen is just too small, (plus I really would prefer a 256MB GPU+ Penryn CPU). I'd like to return it and get a 1530.
Not having done this before, is it as simple as saying I don't want it, or do I need to tell them something is wrong with it?
Thanks for your advice -
Good question... I'm not sure either. Let's hear from some who have done this.
-
i think they charge a 15 % restocking fee
-
Tell them something is wrong... otherwise you might have to pay shipment costs!
-
I have to pay $99 AUD to return my current laptop (restocking and courier pickup fees). It has no defects. Just upgrading to a higher spec
-
Too late for me to send it back now as my 21 days is up today! However, I didn't really want to pay for the restocking fee just to get a newer cpu that is just a little faster. AND this is the real reason I can't send it back now: (I made this XPS my own)
