That does seem like a lot even with the 3 year Complete Care warranty.

I don't think that's bad. This is the price I configured a D630 at from my university's special bundle package:

I know, and I priced it out MANY times, it was always the same. The only coupon I could find was the one they had on the site, 399 off if over a certain amount, which I know is marketing hype.

I have bid on some on EBAY that have almost what I want, but no blue tooth, no FP reader, and not as good a warranty. Since what Dell will let me upgrade the warranty for is an unknown, it is kind of hard to compare. The warranty I have always seems to add about $250, so, subtract that, and the $70 for tax, and it seems better :) But, I just want the peace of mind of next day service and if I drop it it will be replaced. Still, I could get this on EBAY, the guy told me for 925 plus shipping. But the warranty is mail in, which would suck eggs. I always recommend to clients to get the at home repair. If you need it just once it is worth it. See below for what he says he will sell me for $925 on ebay:

    1 222-7946 Latitude D630, Intel Core 2 Duo T7100, 1.80GHz, 800MHz, 2ML2 Cache, Dual Core
1 320-5288 14.1 inch Wide Screen WXGA LCD for Latitude D631
    1 311-5685 1.0GB, DDR2-667 SDRAM, 2 DIMM for Dell Latitude Notebooks
1 310-8768 Internal English Keyboard for Latitude Notebooks
1 320-5298 Intel Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 Latitude D630
    1 341-4569 120GB Hard Drive 9.5MM 5400RPM for Latitude DX30
    1 310-8792 Standard Touchpad for LatitudeD630
1 340-8854 No Floppy Drive for Latitude D-Family Notebooks
1 466-6657 Vista Home Basic with media English, Latitude
    1 310-7283 65W AC Adapter for Latitude D-Family
    1 313-5044 8X DVD+/-RW w/ Roxio Creator and Cyberlink for Vista Basic/Business, Latitude DX20
1 430-2436 Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN (802.11g,54Mbps) Mini Card Latitude
1 313-3673 No Resource CD for Dell Optiplex,Precision and Latitude Systems
    1 312-0485 9-Cell/85 WHr Primary Battery for Latitude D630
1 310-9094 US - System Documentation Power Cord, Latitude D630
    1 986-7988 Dell Hardware Warranty, Extended Year(s)
    1 982-4152 Contract - Mail-In Service, 24x7 Technical Support, 2YR Extended
1 986-7987 Dell Hardware Warranty, Initial Year
    1 982-7480 Contract - Mail-In Service, 1 Year 24x7 TechnicalSupport, Initial Year

Should I go for that and refuse shipment of the previous one?

Dave--I'd keep the one from Dell and not worry about it. I don't think the price sounds unreasonable--especially considering you upgraded the warranty. I paid about $100 less than you did--for a very similar D630. I did get an upgraded graphics card, and 7200 rpm hard drive--but didn't get the fingerprint reader or blue tooth and just got the basic warranty.

I think it's easy to analyze things to much and fret over whether we made the right decision--especially reading these news groups and trying to compare our deals to others.

    Enjoy your new computer!!

    dordale :)

Thanks Dordale, that is a conclusion I myself come to also. Sweating the "Did I get the best price?" is always a losing battle, as there will always be a lower price SOMEWHERE. I enjoy everything about computers, what else am I going to spend my money on that is as much fun??? And that is legal??? :)

I am fairly new to these boards and really enjoying "hanging" with fellow notebook enthusiasts. Dave

Definitely the right thing to do for you own sanity :) Dell does offer price protection, you can call in up to 21 days after your purchase ships, and they will credit you any difference if the price dropped. Aside from that, enjoy the laptop. I wanted a D630 myself and settled for the Vostro.

You're right. There's always going to be a better deal. I'd just stop pricing at this point.

    Enjoy your new machine.

If they accidentally shipped it one day, I may get it... tomorrow :) Most likely by Friday. WOW! Dave
